Abstract

Guild Wars 2's fourth expansion, Secrets of the Obscure, was released in stages over the course of a year. The expansion introduced new maps, endgame strike missions, and features, with a roadmap outlining future updates. The game now offers more consistent content, with festivals and bonus events supplementing expansion updates. Quality-of-life improvements have also been made, such as reworking older parts of the game and enhancing graphical effects. However, the subsequent updates have received mixed reviews, with the third map being released in chunks and the story feeling weaker. Despite this, there are still plenty of activities to engage in, including a new legendary armor set and new weapon archetypes for each profession. Overall, Secrets of the Obscure is a decent first attempt at the new development format, but the question remains whether ArenaNet can maintain the pace and deliver an even better expansion in the future.
