Abstract

A recent study suggests that increasing potassium intake may be more effective in lowering blood pressure than reducing sodium intake. High blood pressure is a leading cause of death worldwide, and excess salt consumption is a known risk factor. The study found that a salt substitute with 75% potassium chloride and 25% sodium chloride significantly reduced the risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke. Increasing potassium intake through diet or supplements could be a simple and cost-effective way to combat hypertension. However, more research is needed, and governments and food companies would need to support the switch to potassium-enriched salt. [Extracted from the article]
