Abstract

Australia's military is expanding its recruitment criteria to allow non-citizens to join the defense forces in order to address a personnel shortage. Starting in July, New Zealanders living in Australia will be able to apply, and from January 2025, permanent residents from the UK, US, Canada, and Pacific nations will also be eligible. The move is part of Australia's efforts to strengthen its defense forces in response to China's growing military presence in the Asia-Pacific region. In addition to meeting entry standards and security requirements, applicants must have lived in Australia for at least one year and be able to attain Australian citizenship. The military is also streamlining its Overseas Lateral Recruitment Scheme to recruit skilled military personnel from overseas. [Extracted from the article]
