Abstract
- This letter to the editor responds to a paper that explores methods for performing density calibration on CT data to calculate bone mineral density (BMD) in the absence of a calibration phantom. The authors of the letter highlight the advantages of the "voxel-specific" method, which does not require direct measurements on the CT scanner and can be applied in settings where access to the scanner is unavailable. They express concerns about the implementation of their method by the authors of the original paper and argue that the conclusions about the poor suitability of the voxel-specific calibration may be overstated. The authors invite others in the scientific community to find solutions through open science. [Extracted from the article]
