Abstract

This article explores the representation of transgender individuals in Indian cinema after 2018, with a focus on the impact of streaming platforms. It discusses the traditional stereotypes associated with transgender characters in Bollywood films and how these have started to shift since the decriminalization of homosexuality. The article emphasizes the role of Over-The-Top platforms in promoting LGBTQ+ policies and mass sensitization. It also provides a case study of the film "Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui" to illustrate how post-2018 Indian cinema addresses transphobia. Overall, the article highlights the increasing popularity of queer-themed movies in India and their contribution to promoting diversity and inclusion. [Extracted from the article]
