Abstract

A study conducted at Antalya Training and Research Hospital in Turkey aimed to determine whether cleaning the venipuncture site with ethanol affects blood ethanol concentration (BEC). The study involved collecting blood samples from 94 individuals who were admitted to the emergency department and had an indication for BEC measurement. The results showed that using ethanol-containing antiseptics before blood sampling did not lead to erroneously elevated BEC levels in patients with a BEC level of less than 20 mg/dL. This information is important for accurately determining BEC and ensuring appropriate diagnosis and treatment of patients in the emergency department. [Extracted from the article]
