Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Indonesia highlights the psychological burden faced by pediatric patients with thalassemia major in Indonesia. Thalassemia is a hereditary blood disorder that leads to anemia. The chronic nature of the disease, along with physical changes and complications, increases the risk of mental disorders and cognitive impairment in these patients. The study emphasizes the importance of routine evaluation of mental health problems in order to detect and treat mental disorders early. A multidisciplinary approach that includes medical care, psychosocial support, and good transition care is recommended to improve the well-being and social integration of thalassemia patients.
