Abstract

A recent report from the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center discusses the characteristics and imaging findings of non-gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST), mesenchymal neoplasms of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. The study highlights the influence of tumor genetics on the molecular pathogenesis, biology, treatment response, and prognosis of these tumors. The research also identifies specific abnormalities associated with certain tumors, such as giant fibrovascular polyps of the esophagus, which are now classified as liposarcomas. Surgical resection is sufficient for benign tumors, while multimodality treatment may be necessary for sarcomas. The article aims to provide insights into the cross-sectional imaging findings of these tumors that align with their histopathological features. [Extracted from the article]
