Abstract

Vietnam's state-run utility, Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), is urging households, offices, and factories to reduce electricity usage due to a heat wave that has led to record-high consumption. EVN does not anticipate power shortages this year, but wants customers to voluntarily implement power-saving measures. Last summer, increased power usage in northern Vietnam resulted in widespread blackouts. While power usage is expected to continue rising in the northern region if heat waves persist, EVN assures that power producers are not operating at full capacity. Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai believes that the completion of a transmission line by the end of June will prevent blackouts. [Extracted from the article]
