Abstract

The article discusses the impact of cachexia, a condition characterized by weight loss and muscle wasting, on the quality of life and survival of lung cancer patients. It highlights the high prevalence of cachexia in lung cancer patients and the need for effective treatment approaches. The article introduces a research project called LuCaPET, which aims to use advanced imaging techniques and artificial intelligence algorithms to detect metabolic patterns associated with cachexia in lung cancer patients. The project also addresses the ethical challenges of using AI in clinical decision-making and aims to make the AI-driven models transparent and comprehensible for clinicians. The ultimate goal of the project is to improve the diagnosis and treatment of cachexia in lung cancer patients and enhance their quality of life and survival. [Extracted from the article]
