Abstract

Equine asthma, also known as inflammatory airway disease (IAD) or recurrent airway obstruction (RAO), is a respiratory disease that can severely impact a horse's quality of life and athletic performance. It is caused by inhaled allergens and irritants, such as dust and mold spores. Early diagnosis and management are crucial to prevent irreversible lung damage. Treatment typically involves addressing inflammation with corticosteroids and using bronchodilators to open the airways. Management changes, such as improving air quality and replacing hay with chopped forage or pellets, are also important. [Extracted from the article]
