Abstract

This article compares the outcomes of early (¿24 hours) versus late (>24 hours) surgical revascularization in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and normal or diminished left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). The study analyzed data from 1227 AMI patients and used propensity score matching to create balanced subgroups. The results showed that early revascularization did not improve mortality or long-term survival in either group, but it did significantly enhance LVEF in patients with reduced baseline levels. The authors suggest that further randomized trials are needed to determine if early surgical intervention can benefit AMI patients beyond the initial hours postinfarction.
