Abstract
- Pedunculate (Quercus robur L., 1753) and sessile (Q. petraea (Matt) Liebl., 1784) oak are long living trees, of great ecological and economic importance, consisting in significant components of the hardwood forests in Romanian lowlands and hilly regions. Even oak forests are resilient, over the last decades they have been affected several times by episodes of decline, followed by significant levels of mortality. These episodes are more frequent lately and have very rich facets. The important role of Agrilus spp. in the decline phenomenon is due to the participation in the final phase of the causative chain that leads to the mortality of oaks. Since, there is a lack of data on Agrilus oak infestation in Romania. The paper aims to review the information on the characteristics of the oak Agrilus spp. and the symptoms exhibited by the decline affected oak trees infested with Agrilus spp., to better understand the relationship between these species and oak decline and to facilitate the identification of the Agrilus infestations.
