Abstract

China has urged South Korea to maintain stable supply chains during their three-way summit with Japan. Premier Li Qiang emphasized the importance of being trustworthy neighbors and avoiding turning economic issues into political ones. Li also welcomed South Korean firms, including Samsung, to expand their investments in China. The leaders of Japan and South Korea agreed to continue shuttle diplomacy and discussed green energy cooperation and concerns over China's actions in the East China Sea. The summit, which was on hold for nearly five years due to the pandemic and geopolitical tensions, provides an opportunity for China to improve relations with Japan and South Korea without the involvement of the United States.
