Abstract
- A recent study conducted at the University of Pretoria in South Africa examined the occurrence of perforated peptic ulcers (PPU) in a single center and compared the findings to other reports from sub-Saharan Africa and high-income countries (HIC). The study included 121 patients, predominantly black men with an average age of 46.6 years. The majority of the perforations occurred in the stomach, and the mortality rate was low at 4%. The study found that the mortality rate and male predominance in PPU cases in sub-Saharan Africa were different from trends in HIC. [Extracted from the article]
