Abstract

The article reports on the growing acceptance by the World Health Organization and the U.S. Congress that toxic fumes can seep into airplane cabins, causing to long-term neurological problems in the crew and passengers, which could posed a problem to the airline industry. Topics discussed include the signs and symptoms of aerotoxic syndrome (SA) and the parallels between the airline industry's view of fume events and the tobacco industry's denial of harm caused by cigarettes.
