Abstract

Personal qualities are defined as a person possessing the qualities of sensitivity, seriousness and feeling of responsibility, energetic, self-confidence and ability to work with people. The personal quality of the teacher refers to the characteristics, traits, and attributes that make a teacher effective and successful. Indicators of internal traits or intrapersonal qualities that highlight the teacher’s character can assess a teacher’s personal quality. Personal qualities can also highlight the personality and superior behavior that dignify the teaching profession. This study aims to explore the new concept of teachers’ personal qualities based on intrapersonal characteristics using thematic analysis. The respondents to the study consisted of eight professionals in the fields of education, teaching, and social sciences. A conceptualization questionnaire in the form of open-ended response options was used to elicit the views of the respondents. Nvivo software, version 14, was used to analyze the data obtained. The results of the study show five aspects of teachers’ personal attributes: openness to experience, concern, extraversion, agreeableness, and self-efficacy. The attributes of openness to experience include the desire to acquire knowledge, the willingness to try new things, and the acceptance of new ideas. Aspects of caring include the attributes of reliability, responsibility, and emotional stability. Under the aspect of extraversion are found the attributes of self-confidence, friendliness, and enthusiasm. Under the aspect of agreeableness, the attributes of leadership, willingness to change, communication skills, and imparting knowledge to others are listed. The self-efficacy aspect emphasizes the attributes of resilience to effectively educate and inspire. Thus, this new concept of personal quality can help teachers become effective educators, create a positive learning environment, and support student learning. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
