Abstract

Researchers at Wuhan University in China have conducted a study on synaptic plasticity, which is the ability of synapses to modulate synaptic strength in response to changes in the environment. The researchers used nanoelectrochemistry to monitor the release of dopamine in synapses and found that the presynaptic terminal recruits vesicles and changes the dynamics of exocytosis to maintain synaptic strength. They also discovered that dense core vesicles are involved in sustaining neurotransmitter levels during repetitive stimuli. This study provides new insights into the regulatory mechanisms of vesicle release and synaptic plasticity. [Extracted from the article]
