Abstract
- A recent study conducted by Stellenbosch University in Cape Town, South Africa, explored the influence of childhood trauma and traumatic stress on a woman's risk of having a child with a fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD). The research found that maternal childhood trauma scores were associated with a slightly increased likelihood of having a child diagnosed with FASD. However, the study did not demonstrate a direct influence of maternal childhood trauma on FASD diagnosis. The findings suggest that maternal trauma may indirectly contribute to the risk of having a child with FASD. [Extracted from the article]
