Abstract

A report from the Catholic University of Louvain (UCLouvain) in Brussels, Belgium, discusses the findings of a systematic review on hepatocellular adenoma (HCA) in pediatric patients. The study aimed to characterize pediatric HCAs and determine their course, complications, and management. The review included 316 children with HCAs, primarily diagnosed in girls at a mean age of 11.5 years. The majority of HCAs occurred in children with predisposing diseases, such as glycogen storage disease, portosystemic shunts, and MODY3. The study found that a significant number of HCAs bled or transformed over time, and management was guided by predisposing conditions and the number of lesions. The research highlights the importance of understanding genetic and malformative contributions to pediatric HCAs for patient surveillance and management. [Extracted from the article]
