Abstract
- Researchers from Pharos University in Alexandria have conducted a study on Stenotrophomonas maltophilia, an opportunistic pathogen that causes nosocomial infections. The study focused on the antibacterial and antibiofilm effects of diclofenac, an anti-inflammatory drug, and a combination of diclofenac and levofloxacin against levofloxacin-resistant isolates of Stenotrophomonas maltophilia. The results showed that diclofenac demonstrated antibacterial activity against Stenotrophomonas maltophilia, and the combination of diclofenac and levofloxacin exhibited synergistic effects, reducing biofilm formation and gene expression. This research suggests the potential repurposing of diclofenac to enhance the activity of levofloxacin or reverse its resistance. [Extracted from the article]
