Abstract

A recent study conducted at Kyung Hee University explored the combination of SH003, an herbal medicine, with docetaxel in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells. The researchers aimed to identify genetic characteristics of cancer cells that are susceptible to this combination treatment. They found that the combination treatment suppressed pyrimidine nucleotide biosynthesis, leading to DNA damage and apoptosis in lung cancer cells. The study also highlighted the significance of the p53 gene as a predictive factor for treatment response, suggesting that p53 status could be used to select appropriate therapeutic strategies for targeting pyrimidine metabolism in lung cancer.
