Abstract

A new research report titled "Trust in Religion among Women in Australia" reveals that Australian women have low levels of trust in religious institutions, particularly when it comes to the protection of children. The report highlights that about one-third of Australian women have no trust in organized religion and religious leaders, with distrust being highest among younger women. The findings also indicate that child abuse scandals have greatly affected trust, with almost half of Australian women reporting low or no trust in the capacity of religious leaders to protect children. The report concludes that religious organizations are facing a crisis of trust, especially among women, and that dedicated interventions are needed to regain trust and prevent potential social and economic consequences.
