Abstract

Surgery has traditionally been the primary treatment for ACL injuries in Australia, with 90% of people who rupture their ACL undergoing surgery. However, research suggests that rehabilitation alone can be an effective treatment for many individuals. A randomized clinical trial found that after five years, knee function did not differ between those who had early surgery and those who underwent rehabilitation. Additionally, a study showed that one in three patients who received rehabilitation without surgery had evidence of ACL healing after two years. While surgery may be necessary for some individuals, rehabilitation should be considered as a viable option for ACL injuries. [Extracted from the article]
