Abstract

A recent study conducted in Delhi, India examined the association between placental location on ultrasound and preeclampsia (PE) in the third trimester of pregnancy. The study included 200 pregnant women, with 100 having preeclampsia and 100 serving as normotensive controls. The researchers found that lateral placenta (where 75% or more of the placental mass is on one side of the midline) was five times more frequent in women with preeclampsia compared to normotensive controls. The absence of lateral placenta provided 90% protection against preeclampsia. However, the severity of preeclampsia was not affected by placental location. [Extracted from the article]
