Abstract
- A recent study conducted by researchers at Leiden University Medical Center in the Netherlands has developed a new field-deployable device called Flow-S that can be used to diagnose active Schistosoma infection using urine samples. The device integrates large-volume pre-concentration of urine analytes and lateral flow detection into a single device, eliminating the need for laboratory-based steps. The prototype Flow-S device showed promising results, with a lower detection limit of 1 pg CAA/mL, and further testing with fresh urine samples is planned. This device has the potential to replace the urine pre-treatment required for current laboratory-based tests, allowing for true field-based applications. [Extracted from the article]
