Abstract

A study conducted by researchers at Eulji University College of Medicine in Seoul, South Korea, compared the clinical outcomes of different treatments for patients with acute cholecystitis who were unfit for interval cholecystectomy. The study found that patients who underwent endoscopic gallbladder drainage conversion had lower rates of recurrent acute cholecystitis and unplanned readmission due to gallstone-related diseases compared to those who underwent conservative treatment after percutaneous cholecystostomy tube removal. The researchers concluded that endoscopic gallbladder drainage conversion may be a promising treatment option for high-risk patients undergoing percutaneous cholecystostomy.
