Abstract
- A recent study conducted at Robert-Debre University Hospital in Paris, France, aims to investigate the effectiveness of the quantitative cuff-leak test (qtCLT) in predicting upper airway obstruction (UAO)-related respiratory distress in pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) patients. The study, which is a multicenter, prospective, observational study, plans to recruit 900 patients aged 2 days post-term to 17 years who have been ventilated through a cuffed endotracheal tube for at least 24 hours. The primary outcome of the study is to identify risk factors for UAO-related respiratory distress and extubation failure, as well as determine if the qtCLT is a reliable method for predicting an increased risk of adverse events. The study has been approved by the Robert Debre University Hospital institutional review board and the results will be submitted for publication in a peer-reviewed journal.
