A recent study conducted at Robert-Debre University Hospital in Paris, France, aims to investigate the effectiveness of the quantitative cuff-leak test (qtCLT) in predicting upper airway obstruction (UAO)-related respiratory distress in pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) patients. The study, which is a multicenter, prospective, observational study, plans to recruit 900 patients aged 2 days post-term to 17 years who have been ventilated through a cuffed endotracheal tube for at least 24 hours. The primary outcome of the study is to identify risk factors for UAO-related respiratory distress and extubation failure, as well as determine if the qtCLT is a reliable method for predicting an increased risk of adverse events.
