Abstract

New research from Aix-Marseille University in Marseille, France, explores the impact of dust-bound contaminants on human health, particularly in young children who may ingest these contaminants while playing on the ground. The study focuses on the presence of carcinogenic substances, such as metal(loid)s and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), in settled dust from preschools in different areas. The researchers found that the bioaccessible fraction of these contaminants represents a potential cancer risk for children. The study suggests that further investigation is needed to complement cancer risk calculations, which currently rely on known toxic substances. [Extracted from the article]
