Abstract

A study conducted by Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt, explored the association between a specific gene polymorphism and non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis in children. The researchers found that there was no significant difference in the gene polymorphism between patients with bronchiectasis and the control group. However, they did observe that the level of lipoxin A4, a lipid mediator that regulates airway inflammation, was significantly lower in patients with bronchiectasis. The study suggests that the gene polymorphism may be a protective factor against the development and progression of bronchiectasis. [Extracted from the article]
