Abstract

In the book review titled "Digital working lives: worker autonomy and the gig-economy" by Tim Christiaens, the author explores the impact of the gig economy on worker autonomy. Christiaens argues that the gig economy has negative consequences for worker autonomy and criticizes existing political theories for failing to address this issue adequately. The book provides a diagnostic analysis of the problems with gig work, drawing on post-workerist thought, and proposes an alternative concept of "convivial autonomy" as a solution. While the book offers a valuable critique and vision for addressing the problems of gig work, there are some tensions and unresolved issues in the proposed concept of convivial autonomy.
