Abstract

Robert Liotta, a senior court officer in New York City, has won workers' compensation benefits for his involvement in the rescue and cleanup efforts following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Liotta registered as a participant eligible for benefits under a workers' compensation law enacted for those involved in World Trade Center operations. Initially, his claim was denied, but it was later reversed by the appellate division of the New York State Supreme Court. The court found that Liotta's activities on that day, including evacuating buildings and clearing streets for emergency vehicles, qualified him for benefits. [Extracted from the article]
