Abstract

A study conducted by researchers at the Technical University Dresden in Germany compared two solution algorithms for the coupled partial differential equations (PDEs) of cardiac electromechanics. The study found that both the staggered and monolithic solution techniques yielded similar results for regular wave propagation, but the staggered scheme provided greater computational efficiency. The researchers concluded that the fully implicit staggered solution algorithm has significant potential for computer simulations of excitation-contraction coupling in the heart. The study was supported by the German Research Foundation. [Extracted from the article]
