Abstract

A systematic review and meta-analysis conducted by researchers at Benemerita University Autonoma of Puebla in Mexico investigated the risk of diabetes mellitus (DM) in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The study analyzed 37 studies involving 266,537 SLE patients and found that there was no increased risk of DM in SLE patients compared to controls. However, the use of antimalarials was associated with a reduced risk of diabetes, while glucocorticoid use was associated with an increased risk. The study concluded that age, sex, hypertension, and immunosuppressants were not identified as risk factors for DM in SLE patients. [Extracted from the article]
