Abstract

A study conducted in Detroit, Michigan examined the relationship between individual social needs and glycemic control in diabetes self-management education and support services (DSMES). The majority of participants reported having at least one unmet social need, and those who reported social needs tended to have higher A1c levels. This association was stronger among Black individuals compared to White individuals. The study suggests that ongoing research is needed to identify effective clinical workflows for incorporating consideration of social needs into medical decision-making. [Extracted from the article]
