Abstract
- A study conducted at Children's Hospital Philadelphia has provided new insights into pediatric proximal fifth metatarsal fractures, which are the most common foot fractures in children. The study found that attempts to classify these fractures are inadequate and do not accurately predict outcomes. The researchers classified the fractures based on location, alignment, displacement, and completion through the bone, and found that location had a significant effect on healing times. The study concluded that classifying fractures by apophyseal, metaphyseal, and diaphyseal is the most concise and accurate system. This research provides a robust standard for nonoperative treatment of these fractures in children. [Extracted from the article]
