Abstract
- A study conducted at the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa examined the metabolomic profiling of wild rooibos (aspalathus linearis) ecotypes and their potential as antioxidant-derived phytopharmaceuticals. The researchers used ultra-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis to analyze the biochemical constituents of fifteen populations of rooibos. They found that certain populations had higher relative abundances of specific metabolites and exhibited higher antioxidant activities. However, further research is needed to determine the contribution of individual metabolites to the pharmacological effectiveness of rooibos. This study provides valuable insights into the potential health benefits of rooibos and highlights the need for further investigation. [Extracted from the article]
