Abstract

Data mesh and data fabric are two architectural patterns that are being adopted to support AI initiatives. Data mesh is a decentralized, self-service architecture where datasets are managed by business units, while data fabric is a centralized architecture that integrates multiple data platforms and simplifies access to data. While both options can advance AI capabilities, data fabric is favored for its centralized resources and management capabilities. It offers a unified and integrated layer of data services and is better suited for AI workloads. However, the optimal approach depends on an organization's specific needs and goals. Both data mesh and data fabric can speed up data management processes, enable self-service capabilities, and pave the way for greater innovation. [Extracted from the article]
