Abstract
- Stavros Papadopoulos, founder and CEO of TileDB, Inc., is introducing the concept of a universal database to address the limitations of purpose-built data systems. These systems are often unable to efficiently handle certain applications, leading to the need for multiple databases and high license costs. A universal database would consolidate multiple data modalities, reproducible code, and versatile compute into one product. TileDB aims to build this next evolution of the database by implementing a flexible data structure that can handle both dense and sparse workloads. The goal is for the universal database to be a simpler and more cost-effective solution for data management. [Extracted from the article]
