Abstract

Skylights are becoming increasingly popular among homeowners as a way to bring in more natural light and create a sense of openness in their homes. Advances in technology and affordability have made skylights more accessible, and they are now available with built-in shades, electrical openings, and rain sensors. The interest in enhancing natural light can be attributed to a renewed focus on wellness and the benefits that a naturally lit space can bring to our quality of life. Designers are also using skylights to create dramatic effects, such as unique shapes and placements, and filtering the light itself to create patterns and shadows. When skylights are not feasible, clerestory windows can be used as an alternative to channel light from above. It is important to consult a professional architect throughout the process to ensure proper design and maintenance strategies. [Extracted from the article]
