Abstract

A recent study conducted in Guizhou, People's Republic of China, explored the risk factors for intensive care unit-acquired weakness (ICU-AW) and proposed preventive measures. The study found that age, duration of mechanical ventilation, sedative and vasopressor dosage, and length of ICU stay were significantly higher in the ICU-AW group. Other factors such as comorbidities, sepsis, organ dysfunction, and rehabilitation therapy were also associated with ICU-AW. The study concluded that minimizing the length of ICU stay and mechanical ventilation duration could be an effective preventive strategy. [Extracted from the article]
