Abstract

A study conducted at Federal University Sao Carlos in Brazil examined the effect of different impeller types on the cellular morphology and production of clavulanic acid by Streptomyces clavuligerus in a stirred-tank bioreactor. The researchers found that the impeller type influenced the flow pattern, power consumption, and energy dissipation, resulting in differences in the hydrodynamic environment that affected the morphology of the microorganism. The study concluded that choosing the most suitable impeller configuration in conventional bioreactors is important for manufacturing bioproducts. This research was supported by various organizations, including Coordenacao de Aperfeicoamento de Pessoal de Nivel Superior (CAPES), Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Cientifico e Tecnologico (CNPQ), and Fundacao de Amparo a Pesquisa do Estado de Sao Paulo (FAPESP).
