Abstract

Researchers from the University of Catania in Italy have conducted a study on the performance analysis of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) 5.1 angle of arrival estimation using embedded radiation patterns on a 3 x 3 uniform rectangular array. The study aimed to address the hardware design requirements for locators in BLE 5.1, which include accurate and fast direction-finding algorithms while maintaining compactness. The researchers compared the conventional steering vector approach with a new embedded radiation pattern approach and found that the embedded radiation pattern approach outperformed the conventional approach in terms of accuracy. The study also highlighted that for a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) greater than 20 dB, the accuracy did not depend on the number of snapshots used. This research was supported by the European Union through the Italian National Recovery and Resilience Plan. [Extracted from the article]
