Abstract

A recent study conducted at Yeouido St. Mary's Hospital in Korea analyzed data from 355,277 Korean patients diagnosed with atopic dermatitis (AD) between 2002 and 2019. The study found that the prevalence of AD increased from 3.88% in 2002 to 5.03% in 2019, with significant increases in the 12-19-year-old and 20 years or older age groups. The proportion of patients with moderate to severe AD also increased during this period. Surprisingly, the prescription pattern for AD treatment, which primarily relied on corticosteroids, did not change significantly despite the rising prevalence of moderate and severe cases. The study suggests a need for the development of novel treatment guidelines that prioritize biologics for enhanced safety and efficacy. [Extracted from the article]
