Abstract

A recent study conducted at the University of Picardie Jules Verne in Amiens, France, explored the factors that prompt physicians to notify authorities of suspected child abuse. The study included 126 children under the age of 3 who were admitted to a pediatric unit. The researchers found that notification was more likely when the child presented with neurological signs and orthopedic symptoms. Additionally, certain imaging findings, such as suggestive results in cMRI, bone scintigraphy, and fundus examination, were significantly associated with the notification of suspected child abuse. The study highlights the importance of specialized medical knowledge and teamwork in diagnosing and managing child abuse cases. However, the researchers note that some non-specific clinical signs can also be linked to abuse. [Extracted from the article]
