Abstract

A recent study conducted at University Hospital Galway in Ireland has examined the use of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) in combination with immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) for the treatment of metastatic renal cancer. While this treatment has shown promising outcomes, it also carries an increased risk of high blood pressure and cardiovascular complications. The study presented a case of a 73-year-old female patient who experienced acute aortic catastrophe as a result of this treatment, but successfully underwent emergency thoracic endovascular aortic repair. The researchers emphasize the need for further assessment of the cardiovascular safety of this treatment approach. [Extracted from the article]
