Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at Indiana University Bloomington examined the association between e-cigarette use and mental health among adults in the United States. The study analyzed data from the 2020-2021 National Health Interview Survey and found that current e-cigarette users had higher odds of reporting anxiety symptoms, depression symptoms, serious psychological distress, and cognitive impairment compared to those who had never used e-cigarettes. Former e-cigarette users and dual users (those who used both e-cigarettes and combustible cigarettes) also showed associations with poor mental health and cognitive impairment. The researchers concluded that regulations on e-cigarette use are needed to prevent mental illness and improve cognitive function. [Extracted from the article]
