Abstract

Researchers from Zhejiang University in China have developed a new method called Wemics for quantifying DNA methylation, an epigenetic mechanism that affects gene expression. Wemics quantification of DNA methylation is more accurate and can better predict its regulatory impact on gene transcription. The method also identifies differentially methylated regions (DMRs) that are relevant to cancer and can serve as diagnostic markers. Wemics has been used to discover novel genes with oncogenic potential in lung cancer. This research enhances our understanding of how DNA methylation regulates gene expression.
