Abstract
- This article is an interview with Jim Gilmore, former Governor of Virginia and Donald Trump's envoy to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). Gilmore discusses the complexities of international diplomacy and the role of the OSCE in advancing U.S. foreign policy ambitions. He emphasizes the importance of upholding Western principles and values in the face of ideological challenges. Gilmore also provides updates on the war in Ukraine, stating that Ukraine has already won by blocking Russian conquest, but is in need of aid and modern weapons to defend against potential Russian offensives. He highlights the failure of the United States to continue its military and financial aid to Ukraine and attributes it to rising isolationism and domestic challenges. Gilmore expresses confidence that President Trump would not abandon Ukraine or NATO if reelected. He defends Trump's statement about NATO members meeting defense spending obligations, stating that it has led to increased defense spending and a stronger NATO. Regarding negotiations with Russia, Gilmore believes Ukraine should not negotiate a settlement until Russia withdraws from Ukraine, pays reparations, and brings war criminals to justice. He warns against rewarding Putin's aggression and emphasizes the need to prevent aggression, murder, and atrocity from becoming the new norm in international relations. [Extracted from the article]
