Abstract

The article discusses the impact of a one-acre prairie planted by a middle school science teacher and his students in Galva, Illinois. The prairie, which still thrives after 42 years, has inspired former students to establish their own native prairies in the area. The article highlights the involvement of teachers and students in the prairie's maintenance and the educational opportunities it provides, such as studying entomology, botany, and ornithology. The prairie has also attracted birds and other wildlife, and its success has led to the cultivation of native gardens in the community. [Extracted from the article]
